I know that cardio is not everyone's favorite thing to do. I love it! But I know a lot of people don't. Alas, we do it! It is key in helping make ourselves healthy and lose weight or maintain our weight. I wanted to hear my readers. What type of cardio do you enjoy doing? Weather it is a machine you do at the gym, a work out you have made for yourself to do in your yard, something you do in your own living room, or with a friend! I wanted to do this so we could share ideas. Maybe this will help you and give you motivation to try something new or incorporate something new in your own routine.
I grew up in the country in the heart of North Carolina. When I was 13 and first started to exercise, I would take a towel and and my CD player and lay them in the yard. I would run laps in my back yard and around my house, then go on the towel and do sit ups, push up's, and different moves I learned from exercise tapes. I did Denise Austin tapes, The Firm, Richard Simmons (I'm guilty), and tons of others. ha ha! And that was my way of getting a good cardio exercise.
If you want your cardio added just send me an email at liz@liztaylortraining.com
Me? My favorite is High Intensity Interval Training on the StairMaster while rotating frontwards and backwards.
Brandon C., Charlotte NC - High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on track. Sprint interval mixed with Stationary Bike Intervals
Ellen J., Alabama – I am not a member of a gym so I like to Zumba work out DVD’s at home and I like to run up and down my road.
Kim S., New York, NY – Running in central park is my therapy and my favorite way to get my cardio in! While I am there I will pack my yoga mat and do some core and leg work in the grass after my run!
John W., Austin, TX – Me and my buddies get together usually 3-4 days a week and one of our houses and put each other through bootcamp and football style work outs in the backyard like we used to do in high school.
Don H., Dallas, TX – Elliptical training is the best way for me to get my cardio, I have bad knees and the elliptical is so low impact that it doesn’t affect my joints.
Ally Z., Myrtle Beach, SC – I live at the beach so nothing works my like running in the sand by the ocean – the resistance is killer!
Alexa P., Los Angeles, CA – My favorite cardio work out is Zumba classes! I have fun, feel sexy , and I do it every day. In fact, it’s so fun that I don’t even feel like I’m doing cardio.
Dawne O., Columbus, OH – I do my cardio work out’s at home since I do not belong to a gym. I do lunges up and down the hallway, jumping jacks, burpees, mountain climbers, and sprints up and down my driveway. It works for me! I’ve kept 40 pounds off now for 6 years.
Brandy B. from Pensacola, FL. I have been hitting the streadmill every day at the gym. I start with abs to warm up and then on to the treadmill for an incline(7) warm up. After about 7 minutes...I lower the incline to 1 and up to 4-4.5 mph and jog. 50 min. to an hour, bumping it up and then back down to 4. I set mini goals for myself as I go along....ex...go an extra distance at the higher mph. It helps! Usually running 3-4 miles and burning 500+ calories. Then I cool down and do some stretches/yoga and abs. Music is a must for me...right now getting me in my zone and keeping it up is...Pit Bull, Snoop, Ying Yang Twins, Shakira, Cee-Lo, Beyonce, Rihanna...just to name a few =)
Lori K, Birmingham, AL- Jillian Michaels DVD's, especially the earlier ones AND the kettlebell!
Bradford D., Colorado - Interval training with treadmill 1 min sprint as fast as i can then 2.5 min at a slower pace.
Chris K Harrisonburg, VA - Running rough terrain, stairmaster, and quick interval sprints if I do speed work for a total 20min.
Jonathan F., Chicago IL - Going for long bike rides. I like how when biking outdoors you are constantly going up a hill, down a hill and all around. It's never boring.
Judy S., Columbia, SC - Elliptical training
Jasmine W., Raleigh, NC – Sprint intervals on the track inside my gym as so fun – that is what I love to do. I get too bored on the tredmill.
Ben S., Buffalo, NY – Cardio theatre at my gym! I can use the Elliptical and watch a movie at the same time, it makes time go by so fast.
Amber A., Raleigh, NC – My favorite way to get my cardio, besides working out at the gym, is wearing high heels all the time to give my legs and extra work out and always taking the stairs everywhere I go.
Bethany G., Charlotte NC – I like to run up and down the stairs at my apartment complex and swim laps in the pool when it’s warm outside – both are outside and fun.
Matt D., Charlotte, NC – Hiking! I like to go hiking in different places in NC.
James Q., Miami FL – The StairMaster is the best piece of cardio I have ever used. It is so tough but I have lost so much weight by using it.
Quan L, Chicago, IL – I like to go back to my old high school and do old football work outs, run the track, and run and up and down the stairs at the stadium.
Anna I., Orlando, FL – I am a member of Gold’s Gym and my favorite way to do cardio is going to the cardio theater in the gym. I can watch a movie while doing my cardio and it makes the time go by super fast.
Jennifer P., Rhinebeck, NY – Zumba DVD’s at home and running around my street – I love being outside.
Austin K., San Diego, CA – I love tredmill. I keep it interesting. I run sprints, sideways, on a incline, and walk backwards. Tough work out.
Julian S., Mississippi – Swimming laps, I love to swim, so whether it is in or outdoor I swim every chance I can. Just with that alone, it keeps me in great shape.
Bridgette T., Milwaukee, WS - I am a huge Kendra Wilkinson fan and her work out DVD's are awesome and a lot of fun. I do them 6 days a week.
Sarah O., Burlington, NC - Spin cycle classes and Zumba are my favorite. I get to be with people and it's never boring.
Emily T., Charlotte, NC - 30 mins of sprint intervals on the tredmill with only 30 seconds or 1 minute sprints (depending on how fast I'm going and how well conditioned I am at the time) and either 1 or 2 minutes for each recovery (slow steady jog- just enough time to lower heartrate) then after completing 30 minutes on the tredmill- I move straight over to the Stairmill for 30 minutes of High Intensity Stair climbing for a total of one hour. My other favorite cardio is simply enjoying a steady pace run outside on a beautiful day. It's so easy to get lost in my music and makes time fly by!
Justin G., Hampton, VA - HIIT for 20 mins on stationary bike, followed by 10 mins Steady-State on Stepmill
Lance G., Cumberland, MD - 30 minutes on the Stepmill
Nicole G., Levittown, PA – Sprint intervals on the track but if I'm indoors I'll hit the spin bike.
Rebecca G., Philadelphia, PA - I love cardio. So running sprints, short intervals, and long intervals suits me fine. I go nuts on the Stepmill - quick climbs combined with running up the stairs as fast as the machine will go. I also like to hike - great workout on challenging terrain with a pack on your back for 8 hours. Biking is fun too.
Rosie V., Elmwood Park, NJ - Elliptical machine and people watch while I do it. There's always an idiot to look at. It makes the time go faster.
Lindsley M. Nyack, NY - I actually enjoy cardio. In the gym an hour long extreme circuit training class.
When the weather is nice- a 30 minute HITT session on a trail or a bike ride. When all else fails walking on an incline for 30 min or the Stepmill.
Cathy R. Fairfield, CT - The Stepmill - 45 minutes of pure fun. It's a love-hate relationship!!!
Teresa S., Bayonne, NJ - Sprints along the waterfront at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ for High Intensity Interval Training. I love seeing Lady Liberty, the NYC skyline, and kids flying their kites during the spring and I love the fresh air.
