Like my title says, it was definitely a miserable week in the life of Liz Taylor. I could barely do anything except sleep! It was not the flu, which thankfully I have never had, nor step-throat. It was just a bad cold that only time, rest, and medicine can cure!
I am the most active-on-the-person. I rarely get sick and when I do, I am a huge baby, haha. I was not able to go to the gym except once this week and that was killed me. Last Sunday and Monday I did not have a cough or congestion but just extremely bad body aches and a fever. I had to miss work Monday. Zack stayed with me some to help me out and he even told me that I was crying in my sleep because the body aches were so bad! Crazy! By Tuesday the body aches and fever had subsided but then my throat started hurting, bad cough and stuffy nose. Wednesday I was weak and barely had a voice. I sounded like a dying frog. Thursday was a little better and I forced myself to go to the gym after work. I could only do 30 minutes of cardio and I felt terrible. Friday I was the weakest I had felt all week and did not have a voice at all. My boss was like "Liz, please leave work". So I got off at noon.
Yesterday I still felt kind of bad but forced myself to go grocery shopping, srub my apartment, and be productive. I literally felt like I was going insane by doing nothing. I kept on with the medicine and got plenty of sleep last night. When I woke up this morning I felt fully rejuvanated! I finally feel like myself again besides some minor congestion and cough. I went to the gym and did an hour of cardio today - it felt so amazing to be back on the Stairmaster. Now I'm prepping for a great short week of work and my mother staying on Wednesday. I am so excited and I cannot wait to see her!
Since I had a miserable week, I'm going to post some tips below to help you have a healthy winter and prevent as much sickness as possible!
- EXERCISE!!! Aerobic exercise speeds up the heart to pump larger quantities of blood; makes you breathe faster to help transfer oxygen from your lungs to your blood; and makes you sweat once your body heats up. These exercises help increase the body's natural virus-killing cells.
- One thing I have learned, always wear a sweater or jacket while leaving the gym. Most of us work out in tanks or short sleeve shirts and even if you are sweaty leaving the gym, keep covered!
- Wash your hands avidly
- Keep tissues near you at all times. On your desk, in your purse or pocket, in your car, etc. Use them to cover your coughs and sneezes; not your hands.
- Avoid touching your face with your hands
- Drink a lot of fluids! Keep a bottle of water or hot natural tea near you. Fluids help soothe your throat.
- Take your Vitamin C!!! The Vitamin C Foundation reccommends 1,000 MG of Vitamin C, 3 times daily.
