Here is her story:
When did you first start developing your passion for fitness?
Ever since age 5, I wanted to be a Dance Teacher. So I danced my way through school even though I had chronic back pain from scoliosis, arthritis, firbromyalgia and a minor, rare type of spinobifidia. In high school I began assistant teaching dance classes, then continued on to college for dance and dance education. After having to take time off from my dancing after an accident, I couldn't go without some type of physical activity, so I started lifting to keep certain parts of my body isolated to avoid pain. I loved the way it made me feel accomplishing small lifting goals, and they way my body was changing. I continued to lift even when I returned to dancing/teaching dance. When the economy went downhill, my dance teaching job no longer made ends meet so I started as a personal trainer. I just so happened I met the right people in the gym who finally convinced me to compete.
What is your favorite muscle group to develop?
I love to work Hamstrings, and glutes are my favorite to work, from all my dance background they're my strongest muscle, however I hate quads, so I can't just say leg day.
What type of cardio exercise do you find most beneficial to you?
I find interval cardio (20 sec sprint, 10 second rest) on an elliptical best for me, its gets my heart rate up to burn more calories in the least amount of time, no impact on these old bones, and keeps my heart rate up longer throughout the day!
What is your favorite part of competing?
I love the bond competition brings... I've met the most amazing friends, especially being a part of my Team Cathy Savage Fitness, and the love, respect and support we've shown for each other is nothing short of a second family to me!
When you are in contest prep, how do you fight the cravings for bad food?
Honestly my cravings aren't too bad. My contest prep diet through Cathy Savage and Isagenix always leaves me feeling satisfied. I keep a "diet" or healthy eating plan year round so I don't have to kill myself come show prep and with no artificial sweeteners in my diet I don't get those nasty cravings plus Isagenix shakes and bars taste absolutely amazing!
What is the hardest part of competing?
The hardest part of competing for me is time management. Finding time to train (first thing in the morning always works best for me,) finding time to cook, finding ways to spend time with friends and family that doesn't revolve around going out to eat.
What is your top fitness goal in 2013?
My biggest goal in 2013 is a pro card. I want it bad and this year is my year, I know the ropes, I know its not going to be easy but I know I can achieve it! However as long as I give it my best shot I'm still a winner in my book!
